Our Center will host the International Academic Seminar Series on Animal Health Economics – Session 2 on December 10, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Our Center will host the “International Forum on Animal Health Economics” on December 10, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring the keynote presentation:The role of vaccination in managing HPAI in the U.S. egg industry
We are honored to invite an international expert to share the latest research findings and practical insights in the field of animal health economics. Dr. Dustin Pendell, Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University, will visit our institution to exchange perspectives and provide guidance on key issues related to animal health.
This forum aims to promote international academic exchange, advance practical applications in animal health economics, deepen scholarly discussions, and broaden research horizons to support global agricultural and animal industry development.
In his talk, Dr. Dustin Pendell will introduce his economic impact assessment concerning the threat of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) facing the U.S. poultry industry, specifically the egg sector. The presentation will elaborate on how the team utilized Partial Equilibrium Models and an Epidemiological Model to quantify the specific impacts of an HPAI outbreak on the industry under various vaccination strategies. The content will deeply analyze how the differences in vaccination status(with or without), timing of vaccination (pre- or post-outbreak), and producer participation rates affect key metrics such as the number of birds depopulated, total response costs, welfare losses for producers and consumers, and the chain reactions brought about by trade restrictions.
